JDM stands for Japanese Domestic Market. it means products that are made specifically for sale in Japan, and are not readily available in the US. an engine swap is putting a more powerful engine into a lightweight civic. the engine bay on most civics is the same as the bay on an Integra, so the powerful Integra engines are pretty easy to put in place of the less powerful civic engines. thats the basics. it goes farther than that, as the Prelude and Accord engines are a possibility as well, though you have to get special mounts as the mount positions are a little different.

i dont use jdm parts for one reason only. in japan there is no law on saying how many miles there are on the motor there sellingv to the buyer in the us. but here in the us its considered fraud to lie on the milage of a motor, resulting in the real milage of the motor up front. Ive seen so many blown jdm motors being sold as "it only has 30000 miles on it" and do you know where thoes miles came from? from a lil jap man sitting in stop and go traffic all day for the last 15 yrs idling your jdm motor. which in hence means thoes motor are ****

im not meaning to reply negatively to all your posts, but the last three ive come across have seemed to be biased and not quite true. jdm motors are a great way to go, many american motors have a huge amount of miles on them, and many have been raced around and driven very hard. in japan they dont hang onto many cars past 30K miles, so many of them are in great shape. yeah, you can get a lemon now and then, but you have a better chance of getting a good jdm motor than you do a USDM motor. let alone the higher average horsepower that the jdm motors have.

And im not trying to be negative im just telling what ive come across. i own and run my own shop and ive come across 12 faulty motors out of a bundle of 25! thats almost 50% i dunno about you but ill spend my time searching in the us for "low milage" motors. if you order a jdm and its faultly guess what there start up warranty is a joke. they will always turn you down. They refused to refund any of the 136000 that i sent them over a two year spand. buyin 10 tt2jz 5 b16a and 7 b18c5 and 3 b18c1 sry that i know from experience. but i was out of a lot of money till i brought thies jap sob to court and got all of it back

as far as i came a cross usdm motors usually cost alot more just because of supply and demand i could have got a d series motor with 70000 for 2500 so i went for the jdm swap for 2200 with the ecu and tranny and motor loved it good deal for me........
