The LX and DX sedans are lighter.

I had/have a 98 sedan dx and it weighed 2339lbs(lighter than any 96-00 ex....sedan or coupe)

I would do the mini me.

96-00 ex head
99/00 ex automatic intake manifold(direct bolt on as far as wiring it up, if you use a 96-98 auto or a 96-00 manual manifold you will need to do some wiring)
96-00 ex computer
Run a wire for vtec

This is the biggest thing though I highly suggest that if you are not 5 speed to do a manual conversion and if you have a manual allready get a 96-00 ex 5 speed transmission. Much lower gearing, alot funner to drive, will pull around .5 to .8 seconds of your 1/4 mile times by it self.

I myself did the transmission and intake manifold alone before I swapped and it was a night and day difference.

b/c i am engaged and this is gonna be a family car. I'm begining to rethink my plans for performance though... begining to think its not worth it. i might just do intake/catback and slam it with tein stecks....

IMO if you are using it as a family car you should get an EX. more family friendly.

Agreed, who doesn't want a moon roof and keyless entry (although it's about $15 and 10 mins to add it to an LX)

My vote is for getting a 5-speed EX sedan. EX sedans are everywhere too btw. And try to get a 99-00, they're a little more modernized than the 96-98 and they won't be much more $$$.

How are they any more modern?

Same exact cars with different bumpers and headlights.

IMO the best family civic is the 7th gen EX sedan.
