Well, my 99 2 door gets like 32 in town when i drive it nice and try to coast a lot. I do have an SRI and exhaust/headers but I think its mainly how you drive the car that decides how good of mileage it will get. Manual helps if you drive it right.

My 97 HX would get 38 mpg and if I drove like an old granny, it would get around 43 mpg. Avoid the CVTs and get the 5 speed. I sold my HX a couple years ago when I got my Hatch and IS300. Original and unmolested Civics are hard to find. You should search for a decent one owner Civic than getting a particular trim model.

The OP mentioned he was trying to get that model but was looking for others that might be easier to find.

I have a '94 DX coupe 5 speed 1.5L, bought it from the original owner. It gets between 30-40MPG. It really does depend on how you drive it though.

I had a '96 DX 2dr that achieved up to 40 MPG on highway going at the speed limit.

Default Civic VX HANDS DOWN

I have a 94 Civic VX. I am the original owner. It has 279,948 miles and has had Mobile 1 in it since day one. My mileage for my last seven tanks has been: 43.2, 40.9, 46.5, 41.3, 40.1, 42.8, & 46.8. The higher numbers are with me only in the car and the air off. The VX is gutless but the mileage is worth it. All these numbers were at 65-70 mph.

the 2.2 liter i-CTDi diesel civic gets (approximately 45.2 US MPG
1986 Honda Civic CRX HF (City 42/Hwy 51/Combined 46)
1995 Honda Civic VX Hatchback (City 39/Hwy 50/Combined 43)
but thats from the factory so the older models probably loose efficiency.
