I'm new to this...someone tell me the pros and cons and what I could possibly do to the engine.

bump.

And instead of posting a new topic, I'm just going to ask something else here.

Is there any way that I can turn my car into a manual? Like if I were to buy a different engine and slap it in, could it possibly work?

The D16Y8's are pretty nice (and as i understand it) one of the favorites of the D-series to build and boost. Mainly for the price, they come in the 96-00 EX models and you can get them pretty cheap. I don't really know specifics, i'll leave that for one of the more informed persons of this site to fill you in on, but from what I've seen and heard the Y8's take pretty well to building and boosting.

Also you can buy a manual tranny for the Y8 or a new engine with a mnaual tranny and change an automatic over, yes.

Alright. What would the cost estimate be of swapping my transmission?

I have a Y8 in my 98 EX, and its great engine. I have beat the sh*t out of it over the last 6 months and it has not so much as let out a peep. I live up in the moutains and it has plenty to pull the car up hills, and is O.K. on gas. There is something wrong with my MPG but when it is running perfect I was getting about 32 MPG city. So yeah it a great engine.

Yup, just make sure its in good shape before you start. Compression check, etc... is always a good idea. Check the Turbo section, Forty did a great write-up there on what all you need to Turbo a car. Its worth a read. Good luck.

Oh and for the stick, just get a manual tranny and then its nothing to change it over from what I have heard.

Engine or car? The engine is in the title of this thread.

And my car looks like this:

and this:

I'm happy with it, I just know there's a lot that needs/can be done to it. Even taking things off of it would give me an idea. But this is about the engine. Suggestions for it?

well if you were going to take something off, take the bumper and replace it with a stock one IMO, but if you are happy with it, keep it! As far as the engine goes, the typical are I/H/E or boost it...
