i would go with the b18b or a block so you dont have to deal with vtec while running boost, if you want i would get a b18c1(gsr) if you want to tune with vtec and know a pretty good tuner. Go with like a gt25 or if you want an earlier spool then i would go with like a ball bearing t3 or t3/t4

The B18B is the best block for boost for the money. Put a Vtec head on it and your golden. Im not a fan of the GSR intake design as well.

Berz out.
THe problem with the LS/VTEC "Frankenstein Swap" is that it is a mondo PITA (or so i hear). Also, you could get an aftermarket GSR intake mani to make up for the crappy stock mani. It would cost a couple hundred more, to me its worth it just to not worry about having to do an LS/VTEC swap. Although that motor is damn cheap.

Find a solid EK hatch and build a Type-R replica. 12K should be plenty. Or maybe that's just my dream.

Sick.

hey guys thanks for all the info, i'm thinking about going with a n/a b18c5 just opening up the air flow for now and going for boost later. ive read a couple of times that the itr head is ideal for boosting. Plus i'll be able to put together a clean all around car if i put off the turbo. comments...

First rule of buying a car: NEVER buy a new car until it has been in production for 2-3 years.
But really there is nothing new about the 06 SI, tha K20/LSD has been around for what 5/6 years just not in the U.S., the navi system has allready been through its new stages in the acura lineup, and more times than not this saying dont really apply to honda in general.

It is fun to have a project and a hobby but it is also important to be responsable also.

I don't think that for 12K a K20 is worth it. The swap will be about 10K and all you have is the engine installed. If you were to build a B series, for 12k you could be running mid to low 11s. I don't think a stock or slightly modded K20 can run that.

A K20 in a 92-95 civic coupe can run high 12's with bolt ons. Add Hondata K-Pro, slicks, and cams and 11's are at your door step. Still not worth it to me though. I have been debating about getting a K24 but if I do it will be in the future. I am not aiming for it now.

Whats a K20 put down as far has HP numbers go? I know that stock it has like 200HP and with boltons maybe 230? So thats 230 Vs. 400+ that you would be putting down with a built B series turbo.

But the thing about it is that even the newest B series is atleast 6 years old with the more favored obd1 B's being 11 to 14 years old. The B series is also all but maxed out on aftermarket support while the K series is just starting. The K series is 10 times better than what a B series will ever be plain and simple. You give it a couple more years and let K series prices come down and watch what happens, people with B series will be looked at as old school and will be out done at every turn.

Take the B18C5 that a certain HCF member has(not naming names but you should know who) he has a fully built engine and estimates around 240whp, that is fully built and NA, a K24 with a K20A head, transmission, and hondata k-pro with bolt ons will do that without even messing with the cams, compression ratio, or anything internally.

The B is a great engine dont get me wrong but it has been passed up in a major way and the gap between the B and the K will only get bigger with time.
