1.7 2002 engine

I have a 1.7 engine would like to know if the trans is the same for a vtec?

Not the same, but compatible I would assume.

I think the EX had lower ratio final gearing which is a trade of better acceleration (in 5th gear) for (highway) gas mileage. But either engine will bolt up to either transmission.
