1997 LX Civic
A friend of mine has a 1997 civic lx, 170k and very well taken care of for under 1000$. He does take care of proactive maintenance, very well. Oil changes religiously.
My question is, on a 1997 civic, when should the timing belt be changed?
every 80 every 100 every 120?
Thanks,
I wonder how many more miles I'll get out of this well taken care of civic?

Civics run FOREVER if properly maintained and taken care of. I have friends with well over 200,000. My 99 civic lx has about 140k miles on it and the timing belt has not been replaced yet. However there is a significant amount of wear done to the belt within that time frame.
Most mechanics will tell you to replace the timing belt at about 120k or so.

i say do it before it breaks. i always change mine on everyvehicle i get just because you really never know when the last one was done and why take a chance on it. always better to be safe than sorry. and for reg maint, i change mine every 80k with a new water pump
