no not really oem is a high quality part and cats are not cheap. you can find after market but there usually low quality and some won't even pass emissions out of the box new.

There is no code specific to the canister itself, and it is rarely the problem*. A leak anywhere in the system will cause one of the EVAP codes. The most likely leak is the gas cap. An open circuit or bad hose or wrong hose connections or bad valve causes the "canister purge valve" code**.

Suggest you have someoe who actually knows how to diagnose the system to make a second opinion before buying any parts.

(*) Unless of course it is obviously broken or missing, in which case you can get one off of a parts car, since they rarely actually go bad.

(**) "Canister Purge Valve" code is also part of the Fuse 15 syndrome-- a bunch of false codes due to lack of power to several systems.

Fuse 15 is shorted wires behind the engine (where the small harness for the alternator goes over the intake manifold bracket) causing fuse #15 under the dash to blow and several things to work intermittently or not at all:
speedometer stays at zero or is variable / wrong -- VSS code thrown
alternator (headlights and all other lights pulsate due to varying voltage)
both O2 sensors heater codes thrown
canister purge circuit code thrown

It sounds like this is not the case here if you only have one of the symptoms. But you can check the fuse easily.
