Default 2001 Civic EX Maintenance

I just purchased a 2001 honda civic EX. I bought it because fuel mileage and dependablity. Anyway I have quite a few questions. First off I 28MPG city and about 35 highway is that normal? The car has 77000 miles on it. It is a 5 speed manual. WHEN DO I DO TIMING BELT? Dealer says 105k, some say 90k others say im overdue????? I know the VTEC solenoid was replaced, the dealer told me that, is that normal for them to go bad on SOHC engines? Other than that im alright, I want this car to last forever so I want to make sure I do everything right. The dealer uses Penzoil in the car, NOT FOR ME. I am a MOBIL 1 person, thats all I use and change it 3 month 3 thous no matter what. I put 5w-20 in thats whatHONDA calls for, does everyone agree with using that weight, i usually use 10-30, Honda is foreign though I am used to Chrysler and GM. Any help is very much appreciated. PS I work at an automotive shop and have some exp with working on cars, do you think I am capable of doing a timing belt on my own? THANKS.
