Default 30,000 Mile Service Woes!

Okay, so my Honda is past due for the 30,000 MI service. I'm at about 34,000 MI right now. I have been putting it off because everywhere I call, the charge is anywhere from $265.00-$450.00; To me that seems outrageous! A friend of mine just got her 30,000 MI checkup on her Mazda, and it cost her $69.00 {Granted they are different cars, but still ... }

I really need to get my oil changed and tires rotated and I have been waiting since that's included in the service, but I honestly can't afford such a costly service, atleast not at this time. I could use some advice/feedback - is there anything I can do ? Help!

for the 30,000 miles service or 24 months in my haynes manual. Pretty much basic stuff, spark plug wires, spark plug check, etc. The main things you might want to consider are; a coolant flush, change brake fluid, change trans fluid for auto and manual, replace fuel filter, check idle speed, and check and replace if necessary the pcv valve.

In my manual it says this should be done at 15,000 miles but it is an important one if you haven't had it done. Getting the valves clearance checked and adjusted.

If you can't afford the preventive maintenance, how will you be able to afford the repairs caused by the neglect?

should anything really need to be replaced at 30,000 miles? seems odd to me the owners manual says to flush coolant at like 50,000 miles.

Dude, why buy a brand new car.. if you can't keep up with the maintenence.. c'mon! If you want to keep it running nice, looking nice, sounding nice, no maintenence isn't the way to go.. trust me, just spend the money and do it!

Better idea, is to do some research and do the maintenance yourself.

Buy a repair manual and do it yourself. All of the stuff listed isn't difficult and just about anyone could do it. The only thing I think that someone who is unexperienced shouldn't do is adjust the valve clearance.
