61.5 MPG?
uhhh sorry but it DID happen.. i always fill my tank till it clicks, and ive charted every single fill up.. it did happen, wasn't a mistake.. a freak thing? yeah, but was nooooo mistake. trust me, i know. suprised the crap outa me cuz i never expected to get over 45mpg.. but there was no mistake, i filled it completely before the trip, and i filled it back up when i got home.. and when i thought it was a mistake i kept filling it but it started comin out my tank.. so it wasn't that the pump was screwed up... i sat there while it filled up and it took like 2 seconds... so, like most of you, i thought it was an error of some sort.... it wasn't.. dont ask me how it happend, i have no clue.... but it did.
No, it appears to have happened. There are way too many variables here. Instead of trying to make us believe you got that mileage, I would be trying to figure out what happened. Was your car aimed uphill when you filled up? Was it aimed downhill when you filled the tank before you left for home? Was the gas cold (denser) when you left and heated up on the way making it expand? Was there an air bubble in the tank? Were your tires accidently pumped up to 50 PSI? We had some 40 mile per hour winds from the NW last weekend here in Ill. What direction were you going? What was the next tanks mileage? Give it some thought.
I'm not trying to rain on your parade, just pointing out that no Honda Civic has ever gotten 61.5 MPG.Not even a hybrid!
My local dealer (Zimmerman Motors, Rock Island, IL) says I am getting the best mileage of any of his customers. I am averaging 36-38 now that the weather has moderated. Most of my driving is city. I am in the process of putting my logbook into a database. When I finish I will post it on this forum. I urge others to do the same. Most folks aroundthis areaare claiming 28-30 around the city.

Yea, that's right. You know, after it clicks, I wait a few seconds, push the rear up and down a few times, and then I do again, but with the handle depressed slightly so it fills slower, and then I stop when I see the fuel coming up or if it clicks again. If you do it right, you can fill it up without "topping it off", the trick is to LISTEN for the fuel filling the filler stock, which is your clue to slow down the pumping, and when you hear it filling again, then it's probably for real. Regardless, you're not supposed to top off your tank, so pretend you didn't read all that.
Do note that if you have a 90's F150, you probably figured out that the auxillary tank won't fill up unless you do it slow. You can stuff another 5 gallons after the click on that tank if you go slow.

Just got back from a trip to visit my father in Virginia....I've an '02 Lx
Usually get around 35 city/Nashville.....
On the way up (filled up completly before leaving), ran until engine light came on then ran a bit more.....44.1mph going up....cruise control, no A/C, doing the speed limit etc...on the way back ....same thing except 46.1 mpg I'll take em.....

i filled both times on a completely flat surface.. and my following fillups did go down but were still up there.. the first following one was around 45, then like 38 .... idk what happend, how it happend, or why it happend.. i was just sharing, haha.. not tryin to say i have a supercar or anything cuz i average 35mpg. not sayin it couldn't have been a mistake but even if it was.. it sure made me feel good when i was filling up, hahaha.
It's all good man...i'm not trying to call you a liar, just saying something probably happened to throw off the measurement cuz it just can't physically really happen (barring the certain thnigs we mentioned earlier.)
well i drove from Portage Indiana (near Chicago) to West Point New York.....I only filled up my Tank twice and its only 10 gallon tank. So 20 Gallons for 771 miles...its a 38.5 MPGs but thats damn good for going 90 the whole way. In 4 weeks im going out there again and will try to figure out exactly the mileage and gallons of gas..
