Jack up the back wheels one at a time and see if they turn freely with the e brake off. The cable may have gotten stuck. After prolonged storage, the brake shoes can rust stuck to the drum.

If it's automatic there may be a problem with the parking lock not releasing. Put the car in neutral or a forward gear with the engine off and try to push it backwards by hand.

So when you shift to reverse, the engine just spins like it's in neutral?

Is it manual or automatic? If it's automatic you may be able to fix this by adjusting the shifter cable.

If manual, do the reverse lights come on when you shift to reverse? If not there may be so much slack in your shift linkage that you aren't moving the transmission to reverse.

More likely of course in either case there is a problem inside the transmission. But try to rule out the simpler external causes first before resigning to flintstone it.
