Default 98 console placeholders?

Does anyone know what the placeholders in the 98 EX coupe's console were used for? (The four little rectangles that you can pull out on either side of the E-brake)

I have been trying to figure this one out for about a year now. My car came fully loaded with all the bells and whistles offered.

Thanks for any help.

Also what is the little thing on the outside of the drivers and pass. window for. It about half an inch and sorta triangular???

For the little pieces around the e-brake dont they just cover the screws?
On the windows i think it is to keep the window straight and in placee when it is rolled up, i am not completely sure. But i do know that all cars have that.
