Well after all the wonderful work my son did on my car it looks like it blew the head gasket on the way home to me. It overheated. When I drove it to work today less than a mile it was ok but on the way home it sputtered and wouldn't go so I held down the gas harder and it creeped across the intersection, then I looked back and there was a cloud of white smoke. Crap! Crap and double Crap.

 

That really sucks. I had it happen once, unfortunately its not an easy fix. Make sure you don't ever let it get even close to overheating again. I made the mistake of not watching the tempeture gauge and the heat blew the cylinder heads. Nothing like the smell of burning radiator fluid coming out of your tailpipe.

 

Do you think it would be safe to drive just to work? I had to add about two cups of h20 to the radiator and fill the reserve tank, and add a quart of oil. The temp never got above mid point today, but yesterday he had to run a hose on it for about 10 minutes for the needle to move off of H. again, Crap. She just looks so pretty sitting in the garage. I could cry.

 

I would try not to. Coolant can get into the motor oil and foul things up. If you absolutely have to, watch the oil temp, make sure there's enough oil, and watch to see if it hesitates while you are driving, and if there is any white smoke coming out from underneath the hood, or out of the tailpipe. Any hesitation or white smoke coming out of your vehicle, if it does, pull over or into a gas station or something, and let it sit for a while. White smoke from underneath the hood is disaster, you've blown a cylinder, and you're burning coolant. Try to get it replaced as soon as possible.

Thanks for the link. My son thinks it's time for a new engine. Now he just needs to find the time to do the swap. Oh well I"ll just dust off the old bikes. Only three more weeks of work and I'm off for the summer. (I'm a teacher).
