I have recently purchased a 2009 civic exl coupe, with a connection for an
ipod. However, when connecting my ipod shuffle to the usb port or the mp3 outlet, I get a 'unsupported version' warning. I note that the ipod classic and nano but not the shuffle are listed in the manual. Is there any way to have my shuffle play tunes?

Does you car's system have an auxilary input? If so you can get a cable with double male ends and plug your shuffle in to that.

I've tried that(the mp3 aux jack) but it does not work. It is strange as I use the shuffle connected through a citzens band radio and Helmet speakers when riding my motorcycle and it works well.
