All the non-SI 8th generation civics have the R18A1.

Do these engines have a lot of N.A. build potential? Good heads, forged internals, aftermarket parts availability?

Not a lot of aftermarket support as of yet, as far as internals, it seems that all the engines (r16-r20) use the same pistonsl, with varying rod legnths and crank profiles. they are killer little cars out of the box so i would sayit would be worth an investment in 2 years and to start a build then (support will be up and cost will be down) but the cars will still be new...
