Same engine and power as the DX and LX, and anywhere from 50 to 120 lbs heavier. I don't get it. Lots of extra available features, but still... hasn't the EX always been faster? Why not this year?

I think they're focusing power towards the Si and marketing the dx-ex more towards the typical compact car. I'd say it gives people who want the power more incentive to go with the Si vs. the Ex, before there wasn't really too much difference.

But what about those who want a bit more pep but need four doors?

I don't like the redesign much at all, so I doubt a new Civic is in my future--for the next 4-5 years at least.

Exactly. Or people who want a sporty'ish car without the "please race me" look? Not to mention the difference in insurance rates btw an EX and an Si...

You guys have to remember though, the new DX-EX series comes with 14 more hp than the EX did previously.

The thing I'd personally love to see is something like a DX-R... stick the new 197hp engine in a DX model without all the fancy things the Si has weighing it down.

Yeah but they kinda had to give it a more powerful engine to make up for that extra 200+ lbs of weight tacked on since last year

not having driven one myself, i can't really comment. I plan to as soon as we get some around here though. To me even the 05 LX feels quite peppy and refined, but I guess that's just b/c of the torquier 1.7L compared to my 1.6. I am undecided about the appearance of the 06 coupes. I like the front, but the back is kinda... ehhh dumpy? Anyway I look forward to testing one regardless once we get them around here.

My main point anyway was that if you're paying $18k-20k for an EX, you oughta be getting a better engine than the base models. I can go pick up a nice 160hp 4-banger 5-spd 05 accord coupe with 17" alloys for 20k and it looks a lot sexier than the 06 civic coupes IMO, and probably more fun to drive.
