Default Does your A/C rape your mpg

Man, my A/C is raping my mpg like no other... I try not to run it but lately I've had to and it easily cuts my mileage in half. Does it do that to you guys? And does it noticeably bog the car???

I've never had a vehicle effected this much by a/c before...

If this is not a common problem, what should I be looking at?

They did an experiement on the show Myth Busters on TLC about whether using the A/C over having windows down drops your MPG and found out there is a certain MPH where having your windows down causes enough drag to drop your MPG and using the A/C is better.. I believe it was 55mph. So, below 55mph, have your windows down, and after 55mph roll'em up and use the A/C.. just a piece of useless knowledge that I have floating around in my head.

The only thing AC is good for is defogging the windows in a downpour... opening the windows just doesn't cut it in that situation, lol.

I'm with you.. damn DX model not coming with A/C.. really gets annoying especially because I drive 50 miles one way to work, and my office should be a storage closet, so it doesn't have A/C and I have to wear slacks and a nice shirt, so on a hot day, I am really screwed..

the window thing should be diffrent depending on the vehicle also... well, mabie not a noticable diffrence. but yeah, my ac bogs down the engine a lot, enough that i dont use it just for that reason unless im on the highway.
