Default Draaag Racing.

Well, i got my car out to the strip for the first time since i went to the 1.8L. the best i got on the b16, was a 15.4, with an AEM CAI, and a 6-puck that would spin the tires into and through 3rd, and deep into 4th. now, on the b18, i only have a cone filter stuck into the end of the stock pipe, and an Exedy S1 and 9.46# flywheel.

1st run was still kinda warm out, and i was trying to figure out how to launch, and spun the tires too much. i ran a 15.222@95.2mph.

next run was a little better, only spun the tires a little, and it felt solid, though i think i revved out of my powerband a little. good for a 15.009@95.3mph.

next was a soft launch, very small bog, but then went perfect. 14.867@95.9mph.

next was a clean run, small slip of the tires, then great shifts all the way through. went for a best of 14.861@94.0mph.

after that, i got jittery, and botched the next 2 runs, so i went home.

all in all, it was a good night, ran a personal best, talked to a few cool people, and had fun. and didnt break anything.

The whole not breaking anything is a victory in itself. If I buy a DSM (like I've been wanting to for years), I'll think something is wrong if I don't break anything.

The main problem with them is the drivers though. They bolt on turbos that make twice the power as the stock one and they still drive it like it's stock. The car itself, in stock form, is reliable. The one that I've been looking at hasn't had anything wrong with it and was treated right. I know because the previous two owners are my friends. Here's a picture in case anyone was interested.

Yeah, 2G 4G63's have a penchant for crankwalk, but it's nothing that can't be remedied. The first gen DSM's are actually built better mechanically, and the turbo/BOV are both a lot stronger. The engines can hold close to 400 on stock internals if done correctly, so like se7en said, it's not an issue with the car; it's an issue with the driver. The problem is, most people think those engines are invincible, so they bolt up 20G's, throw a rod, and blame it on the car. Too many DSM haters in the world, I say.

Well, the car is not currently for sale, but should be in the winter when he finds a VR-4. I would say around or below $8k. Located in St. Louis, Missouri. Very good mechanical shape, never been red-lined. 14.40 @ 96 is the current, best timeslip.
