Default Dropped a valve at the dyno today at 7500 RPM

Well we were on the last pull today (BTW, it made 124whp with the i/h/e and ZEX cam) and when the tuner let off of the gas the car kinda made a funny noise and then cut off. It didn't sound good to me at all...and I was right. Dropped a valve at 7500RPM's. Everything is pretty much screwed other than hopefully the head so I can sell it. Im getting a b16 swap though! The one Im hopefully getting has Type R cams, ITR intake manifold and throttle body, JDM oil pump, JDM water pump, and an LSD tranny. It's got 50-60k on it and he's letting it go for $4,500 installed. Not to bad really...I didn't get to use the spray today b/c the ZEX NMU was a defective product. Took it out of the box, tried to install it...I get no power from it at all. Even had 2 pro's try and look at it and they both said it was defective. Im sending the NMU back and hopefully they're sending me a new one. Im not keeping it though. If my y8 head is ok, Im selling the whole head with a ZEX 105300 (stage 2) cam and ZEX valve springs. If the head's not ok, then Im selling everything in it seperatly. I can't wait to get the b16 in. I originally did NOT want one due to the fact that everyone has them ...but they are good motors. And this one is pretty much a Type R B16. Anyway, what do stock b16's put down at the wheels?

124's not bad for that small a build.

Anyone know if this is a common problem for the Y8?

Most B16s put out 160 bhp stock juiced. Yours would be more like 170-175 though. That's somewhere between 140-150 at the wheels.

Thats a decent price, but how can you trust its got that many miles on it? For that money you could get a nice GSR.

at that rpm i wouldn't think to much servived, probably gonna have pivets overwere that valve steam bounced around. just dont think less damage is done that there really is when you get in there

Oh I know. Everything is screwed dude. The whole problem is that I had a ZEX stage 2 cam, ZEX valve springs, and stock retainers. I should have gotten titanium retainers and this wouldn't have happened but hey...I get a nice b16 out of it. And I could get a nice GSR motor for that price but that's not installed and everything. This b16 is 4500 installed with all that stuff and he's supposed to be doing it this week sometime. I didn't think 124whp was to bad for such a small build either. I was pretty happy and so was my tuner. That ZEX cam really made a nice difference in power. It was around 9whp increase with just the cam. I would deff recommend that cam to anyone with a d16y8.

Ouch, that really sucks... I guess you can look forward to the power from the new engine at least right??? There's nothing like feeling good about your car after you get work done to it and having it break...

Yea I know. We spent a while making sure the cam was in good and setting the valve lash, replacing to warped valves and then take her on over to get dynoed and then it fall apart. It just needed to either stay at 7200 RPM or needed titanium retainers to go higher. **** happens though. I'll kinda miss it because it was my 1st engine and it was a nice one but hey, Im getting an engine that has 33 more hp and isn't prone to spinning rod bearings lol
