Default Feature or flaw?

I own a '94 HB Si. Recently I discovered I can remove the key at any position of the ignition switch. I mean- I can remove the key with the engine running. I'm not dismayed or looking to fix it, I'm just curious if that's the way it's supposed to be.
Thanks!

No it's not supposed to work that way, but it happens on older cars when the the key and/or cylinder is worn out.

I had a 1982 S-10 that was the same way. The key was worn real bad. If you didnt trun it all the way to the lock postion you could start it without the key.

I am going through the same problem. As per my mechanic my car is old and now it will give such problems frequently.
