Default gas needle

Why in the hell does my gas needle go up and down sporaddtically? If I gun the car the gas needle sinks down as it were powered by gravity and it goes back up. I wish it was timed a little late so it wouldnt do that sh*t

its because the guage is controlled by voltage. the more fuel, the less voltage the sending unit sends tot he needle. so when you gun it hard, and revs goup, the alternator sends more current through it, and more gets to the guage. if you take a long hard right corner (like a freeway on-ramp) really hard, it will drop like half a tank.

3 things control that gauge. the gauge of course. wiring and fuel level sensor in the gas tank. now if the sendor is begining to short out it will have a erractic guage. or if a wire is rubbing on ground or another wire that can also cause it. but bascially what you are saying is fuel is moving around very quickly in the tank and thus your erractic gauge.

Dont use gass guages, they can be very unrealiable. Use your mile ticker that u can reset after every fill.Thats what its there for.

I noticed the same thing. When I made a hard turn the level indicator would move around, pertty typical. One question fellas, yesterday as I left work I could have sworn the gage was reading 3/4 tank BEFORE I put the key in. How could this happen? Thanks
