if there is one i am pretty sure it kicks in around 115mph... and there is no reason to be going that fast on a public road

It sounds like a governer (and governers don't really shut off the engine... I believe they cut eitherfuel or sparkto the engine... I'm not positive on which it is)... I hit the governer on my mom's Grand Am all the time (3.4l V6... hells yeah! 116mph if anybody cares). Anyway, that sounds exactly like what's happening to you. How fast were you going, anyway?I've never hit the governer on my civic (113 is the fastest I've had a chance to go in it).

You should be careful, racing on public roads really isn't a good idea

I know GReddy and HKS both make (or at least used to make) governer overrides. Unfortunately, the only place I've seen them is Andy's Auto Sport, and I hate that place.
