Having keys made
WEll, I just went to Kmart to have my 2001 Honda Civic's only key duplicated and the damn thing has a chip in it.. Anyone know how much it would cost to get a duplicate key from the dealer? I would just call, but we don't have a Honda dealer up here. Thanks

RE: Having keys made
me being the dumbass that i am has lost my orginial key and my spare key. I called the dealership yesterday and they said $25 to replace and that was per key so im expecting it would be the same to duplicate. The guy from the part dep. also asked me what year my honda is mine is a 93' so it may be a little more since you have a chip in yours. or less since your getting yours copied.

25, thats outrageous. i got a brand new key cut for my civic and it cost me 6 dollars (and its a factory honda key) my civic is a 90, but they used the same key up to 00 i believe. with a chip it will cost probably over 50 because it would need to get coded and programed

RE: Having keys made
I used to work at Honda.. I got a copy of my key for a 99 civic and only cost me $.99, so I don't know if its something in the key or if they are just trying to rip you off but I got my key for under a dollar.

RE: Having keys made
I want to say my keys to the '02 Civic and Odyssey were $40/each plus the cost of the transmitter. Both keys are chipped. I'm not sure, 'cuz I didn't pay for them (not my cars).
I went to the hardware store and paid like $2 to get a bunch of copies of my Civic's key made. They don't have the plastic head, but I don't care--they're only spares.
And while I'm on the subject, I wish car manufacturers wouldn't make the new keys and fobs so darn fat.
