i seen on a dyno run, how vtec works very nicely when its set to kick in early, or even stay kicked in at all times

Did that dyno actually show improvement? just remmember hitting vtec earlier makes the engine work harder and waste more gas.

Can you post a link to where you found the information that it helps if you change the vtec timing?

No, obviously you are not aware of what it does. The optimal valve timing, lift and duration settings at low RPM are very different from optimal high RPM settings. VTEC is a technology that allows the best of both worlds. At low RPM the timing, lift, and duration settings are just right to achieve the maximum amount of power with VTEC off. If those settings were used at high RPM, the engine wouldnt be performing at its best. Thats were VTEC comes in. It switches those settings around and allows for optimal flow at high RPM. If the high RPM VTEC settings were used at low RPM, you would actually suffer power loss instead of gain.

If you can understand the above information then you can see why changing your VTEC engagement point is completely useless.

I'd LOVE to see it... Got a video of said dyno pulls? What were the specs on the car in question? I mean, if it does show gains, GREAT! But at what cost are you getting these gains? Limiting your motors lifespan? Having to replace head internals every 6 months? Who knows..

My view on the situation is that if real tuners (no, the guy who puts a freakin SRI on his motor is NOT a tuner) recommend against it, than why bother? Why mess with success, which is what Honda has had over the years with where they set the engagement points

if he wants to buy one, then let him. yea honda does a great job at tuning the cars from the factory, but everything from the factory isnt always performance oriented. if you want to buy one, do it. and if you look on the website it has instructions you can download. good luck.

If you want to engage your vtec at a different rate than set at the facory just install a toggle switch on the wire coming from the rpm sensor going to the computer. When sensor reaches 5700 rpm (not exact) it sends a pulse to the ecu telling it to run a different fuel map and engage the sol in the head. Running a toggle to this wire lets you engage the computer/sol at any rate. At a stoplight with the vtec at itle it sounds like a muscle car but gets very poor gas milage. It does work, I have a 94 civic ex with this mod. you just have to have no fear splicing wires going to your ecu . Not sure if this damages the engine in any way?

I wouldn't do it man. Leave the vtec like it is. Sounds too risky especially if you don't know what the hell you're doing.
