Question Honda Fuel Gauge Accuracy

This is more of a 'general discussion' topic more than anything else, but if this is in the wrong area, I apologize!

I have a '97 Civic LX, and I have noticed that my fuel gauge needle can have as much as 1/4 tank 'float' at any given time - As you can imagine, this tends to cause a lot of issues when trying to decide when exactly to stop for more gas (The one thing that irks me about my car is the 'Low Fuel' idiot light, but no 'ding' to go along with it - I've ran out a few times just because I didn't see the light!) - Is this 'normal' for my car (I have had the car for almost two years, and it has always done this), and if it is, what can I do to make it a bit more 'accurate'?

You have to think about what happens in the tank, going uphill all the gas moves toward the back, or to the front for downhill, and to the sides when you turn corners. So you should consider the gauge reading most accurate after you have been going steady on a level road for a while for the gas to stop sloshing around.

As is true with most cars, 1/2 and 1/4 aren't that proportional to a number of gallons.

My last car was a Lancer Evo II, and the needle barely moved at all, whether I was going up, down, etc - After that car I'm just not used to having it float that much LOL
