thankz kommando, that taught me a lot
What is really a learning experience is finding some time to actually drive vehicles like those I described. My mom has 2 tractors at her farm. One is an old Kubota with 25HP. You wouldn't think that's strong enough to do anything heavy with, but it has enough torque to easily pull her Ford Expedition out of a muddy pasture...at idle. It just won't go more than like 20MPH. My 4.2L Jeep was kind of similar. If you ever drove an old Jeep with a carbed 4.2L or a tractor with an I6 diesel you'dalmost laugh at how strong they are for pulling heavy loads, while being so absolutely slow at accelerating when unloaded.

Torque at the wheels can also be adjusted through gearing.

Very true...a car's torque is modular at the wheels due to different gears and the estimation of torque at the crank is calculated through the horsepower ratings.

I dunno, but it weighs like 3000lb, has around 40" tires, and lurches forward from a dead stop in 5th without any throttle or a hint of bogging.
