how much oil
#9
are you serious...... you just made me facepalm myself and lol
there is a full mark and a add mark...... with the engine off, pull dipstick wipe it clean, re insert the dipstick back into the dipstick tube, then pull and look at where the oil level is on the dipstick. if below the full mark then you need to add oil, if over the full line by alot then you will need to drain some of the oil.

The oil level needs to be somewhere between the two holes in the flat part near the bottom of the dipstick. Above the top hole is too much. If it is at or below the bottom hole, it is OK to add a full quart. After changing the oil it is best to fill to near the top mark, this will prolong the time before it may be necessary to add more.
Also right after changing the oil you need to run the engine for a minute to fill up the oil filter and passages to get an a true reading on the dipstick. If you pour in the proper amount of oil and check it before starting the first time it will show too high. Bonus for priming the new filter with oil before putting it on, this keeps the engine from going without oil for very long on that first start. The oil you use to do that counts as part of the 3.5 quarts.
Further dipstick 101: Check oil with the engine OFF. It does not matter if it is cold or hot. Wait a few minutes after stopping it to let the oil drain down for an accurate reading. Pull the dipstick out and wipe the oil off. Put it back in all the way then pull out again. Observe the oil level.
