Default How to tell if my engine is a vtec

Hello all I just purchased a 99 civic ex coupe from my pop's friend for $1300. Before I bought it he told me that he got a new engine because the previous one had about 300,000 miles on it. I'm no expert but I know for sure most civics say vtec on the engine but this one doesn't. I was wondering if you guys can help me out on this one because Im really curious. Is my engine a vtec? Here are some pictures.

Yes like Vartok mentioned, its a vtec motor.
The stamp that says D16Y8 is the engine code BTW.

Really? I was under the impression that all Z6s had the VTEC stamped valve covers.
