Its hard to tell what kind of motor you have when it is covered in red paint but it looks like you have a 1.6 SOHC NON VTEC
its actually vtec, you can tell by the vtec solinode and having the spark plugs in front. all D15-D16 SOHC engines with Vtec have there spark plugs located on the front of the valve cover, and like i said before just look behind it for the vtech solinode,

yeah, this is instructions, not a question... it's not my motor... and you're wrong [8D] (it's Tony's D16Y8, RIP)
Guys, this wasn't a question!!! This was a "how-to" by MXS to help people figure it out.

And p.s. Jameson, they are spelled VTEC (no H) and Solenoid (not solinode)

Hmm I have a question. I SHOULD have the following:
D16Y8 1.6L SOHC VTEC 96+ Civic EX 127hp

As I have a 98 Civic EX coupe. Yet I haven't felt VTEC kick in yet... At least that I've noticed. Then again, the only two cars I've driven with VTEC were my brothers, a 91 Integra Type R with a turbo and a 96 GSR, so the following engines:

B18C1 1.8L USDM DOHC VTEC 94+ Integra GS-R 170hp
B16A 1.6L JDM DOHC VTEC 89-91 Civic Si-R I/CRX Si-R, Integra RSi/XSi 160ps

Obviously those both leave my engine in the dust hp wise, and both are DOHC whereas mine is only a SOHC,but I haven't really noticed any kick from VTEC. I mean, it revs a TINY bit when it hits about 5,500 RPM, but it doesn't seem to increase the speed any. I assume I'm just used to the drastic speed increase from a 170+ hp DOHC VTEC. My Civic doesn't have a VTEC header or anything, but then again, I've yet to see a 98 EXwith the VTEC header. Little weird.

So my question I guess, where the heck does it SAY the engine type on the engine? Pathetic question, eh? Also, any explanation for the VTEC thing? Is it just not that big of a difference with a SOHC with a low HP?
