My first car I had was handed down to me so now I am looking for a new reliable car to get me from point A to point B, not for racing.

I been looking at 96-2000 Honda Civics (2drs) at less than 150k miles.
I found a 97 the other day with 155k miles for $2900.

What prices should I be looking at for a good Honda Civic with about 150k miles or less?
Im looking to spend 3k.
If I could find one with less miles, maybe 4k.

Also, any advice on buying a new car?
Check the oil dipstick for carmel like substances, and what else?
What known problems do Civics have after so many miles? Water pump? Burning oil?

 

that 97 for 2900 is a pretty good deal. you could probably even talk him down to 2500 which would be a great deal. you shuold be able to find a decent civic for 3000. i really dont knwo too much on what to look for, im sure someone else can help you with that.
