Default ls vtec??

Today i was at a car show and i saw a boosted ls vtec. Wouldn't that be stupid to get a vtec head if you boost an ls motor? You don't need the powerband in a vtec with turbo and you have too much compression to run alot of boost with a vtec head. Am i wrong?

Vtec has nothing to do with compression for one.

apparently i explained it wrong. but i have had 3 techs tell me that if i run turbo i should notget a vtec head. It has something to do with the way vtecworks. What is it? Can someone explain?

Well, there are two schools of thought there. One is that vtec is tougher to tune and the non vtec has a smoother tourque curve. The other is that vtec heads shine in vtec (aka 5500+ rpm) and the ls motor isn't designed for those revs.

I would like to see some numbers on similar turbo set ups of the two configurations, but I would be willing to bet that the ls/vtec still makes more power due to head flow. Of course you are looking at over a grand for that head swap so it may not be worth it.

what do you think the hp gains are on an ls with a vtec head. 20-30hp?
