Default Manual transmission 96 honda civic dx

In my 96 honda civic dx I need to change out my manual transmission fluid. I know refilling it is a pain. Is there a way to remove the vehicle speed sensor and the gear shaft that it’s attached to and just refill it there.
I remember doing that to my 95 civic dx coupe and it was so much easier. Can I do that without messing up the speedometer(VSS).

You should. IIRC, The VSS is held in by a single 10mm bolt.
