Update:
I found the hole that they were coming in. Went out with a flashlight in the dark and just behind the drivers side rear wheel there is a vent for the trunk. Not on the floor of the trunk but just a couple of inches up on the side pannel. Pulled out the plastic vent thing and put mesh wire over it. I had put in some steel wool to plug the vent but after a couple of weeks they popped through the steel wool and were back in the car. With any luck this might help someone else!

Hope that is the only way they were getting in on you Misha. Just trying to help out. Mice have their part in the ecosystem........ but not in cars. It just drove me nuts because my wife and 4 and 2 year old kids had to ride in the car with mouse turds. I cleaned it as much as I could, but it was still discusting.

A mechanic went to replace my cabin air filter in my 2001 Civic and found a huge pile of debris; foam, string, some wool like substance, and acorn parts. I guess I've had a mouse and/or colony living in there for quite some time based upon the size of the nest. I cna't figure out where they would get in since the ait intake at the bottom of the windshield outside is about 3/8" wide between the slats. Furthermore, the acorn would not have passed air intake. I don't think they got inside the car.
I've also had a problem with them nesting in the air cleaner.
I'm actually not sure if it is mice, or perhaps chipmunks since there are so many of them where I live (and they eat acorns).
Does anyone know if there are any cats out there that will fit through a similar sized opening :-)?
