Default Moving into liquid sunshine

Alrighty crew, I've been accepted to Humboldt State University in the depths of Nor Cal and as much as I hate too, it's my only car and the Civic's coming with. For those of you not familiar with this region of California, it rains. And I'm not talking about the cute sprinkles here and there everyday, I mean there are days where it seems the ocean is coming down from the sky. So, I seek the wisdom of the technical experts and those who live in rainy areas (WA, Nor Cal, OR, etc.). Is there anything in particular I should do? I don't have anything performance on my car, so I'm not stressing that. All I could think of was new rims and tires with rainy driving emphasized treads. <--------------Suggestions would be awesome. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Mid-January, one of the rainiest months up there. I'm going to be an International Relations major with a focus on the Middle East.

Yeah congrats I hope it all goes well for you. All i can think of is to make sure you have a decent pair of windscreen wipers and like you said make sure you have some rubber that is designed for these sort of weather conditions.
