Default mpg tips?

I have just bought a 2004 fuji blue ex, 1.7 v-tec with 5-speed. It is totally stock right now. Is there anyone who has done any mpg tests? Whats worked and what hasn't? Other than keeping a light right foot, what other things would aid in good mileage? I was wondering what would be the best rpm/shift point is for best mileage?

The most important variable, obviously, is your right foot (no jackrabbit starts). Other points to consider: Plan ahead so as to not have to brake hard. Travel at or below the speed limit. Make sure tires are inflated properly. Keep you car well-tuned and maintained. Use synthetic fluids in the engine, transmission and differential. Using these simple tips I am able to consistently average 35 mpg around town and 40+ on the interstate....even when maintaining a crusing speed of 70 mph.

coast down any hills, check tire pressure/keep it high, don't rev too high, make sure your fuel filter is clean/replaced, no check engine light, and don't hammer on the gas all the time (which is hard w/ I/H/E)

dito with them above... just be easy with it.... the low 2-2.5K shifting and coast as much as possible as well as keeping the speed reasonable...... just do the speed limit.

my first road trip i did in my 94civic i got about 36mpg from it rolling a steady 65-70MPH.
and the road trip i just did yesterday going a steady 80MPH i only got 31mpg, tho the really cold weather could have also effected it, my first road trip it was around 40degrees, my last road trip was like in the single digits

just keep a good eye on that RPMs and youll do decent...

if your name pertains to greddy turbos no wonder you get so much gas mileage at 2400 rpms, theres minimal boost to none, turbos a atomize air= better gasmileage, but the second that sucker produces boost your mpg goes fom 34 to like 10 LOL

We have a '06 LX Civic- bone stock. It pulls down 36+ mpg, 2500-3000 rpms, 75- 80+ mph driven daily. No import road burner, but how many cars can you drive that fast and still get the mpg?

I also follow Don's basic rules (light rightfoot, synthetic oil, air in the tires, etc) as well. And I drive it nice and smooth- it only has 140 hp.

This is all good stuff guys and it's really appreciated. I do know that the lower the rpm isn't alwaysthebest as engines all have their "sweet spots" in terms of efficiency.

If you're driving at speed (on the freeway) a lot, make sure you keep your windows rolled up and used the air vent (better aerodynamically).

Be very smooth with the clutch.

Stick with stock (narrow tires) on aluminum rims, or use some fairly smooth wheel covers.

Don't carry anything in the car you don't need.

Plan your trips to reduce the number of start/stops.

Keep the electrical load down, everything lowers your mpg, lights on during the day, (which i admit i do do, because i like the look of my headlights[&:] even though they are stock) even the rear window demister, which admittedly i just prettymuch leave it on through winter
