Default is my 98 civic ex vtec?

I hear bolth ways and it dont say it on the valve cover or anything?

It should be not unless it was swapped out. Check the front engine pad below the cylinder head by the transmission for an engine code.

i can see 16y8 for sure but i cant see a # before it

yes Y8 is vtec. you can also see the vtec solinoid on the back left of the head as well.

What engine do I have? and does it have VTEC

Here's how to find out:

1. Look at your engine, specifically here. There's a code there... some numbers and letters.


2. Go here and look it up.

Yes the D16Y8 is a SOHC VTEC motor making 127hp.

yeah all ex's are D16Y8 unless someone swapped a b18b in it

yes the ex has a d16y8 sigle over head cam vtec motor but you really can feel the vtec kick in as much as a dual over head cam vtec motor like the b18c or b16a...for some reason the valve covers on the single cam dont say vtec on it...just says honda but you can change it using a d16z6 valve cover those say vtec on it...
