You mean something that is under $2000 that is neither rusty nor growing various foliage? Around here a lawnmower is worth $2000, and nobody has lawns!

So I got the accident report, and here's what it looks like...

...so tell me, physics gurus, if I was hit on my driver door, explain the crater in my rear quarterpanel and the broken rim...

Also, I have little choice but to drive my car in its shape. But before I can, I have to fix my radiator, again. Apparently, 3 piece plastic/aluminum radiators suck, because I keep blowing the seal. And no, MY FAN WORKS, and NO HEAD GASKET PROBLEM. So I found out that NAPA and the bunch no longer sell one piece aluminum radiators like they used to, but on eBay...

...so, is this worth a buy, or should I avoid? Remember, I can't spend any more money than I need to right now. $$$ has to go to the legal eagles...

Well, my time to depart is coming near. I went to Largo today to see if they can do some testing to find that blasted cooling leak. I put in that awesome radiator but it keeps blowing air through the system, meaning every 60-80 miles I have to refill the cooling system. They couldn't find anything. Figures.

However, while I was there, I popped over to used cars to check out the stock of Civics and Accords. Once again, no one wants the 2007 Nissan Versa with 5,000 miles on it, becasue driving a car with a 6 speed gearbox is too much work. I would buy it, but I can't afford the payments on that car. Then, there is the riced up 2005 Civic Si, complete with carbon hood, butterfly doors, and rear wing. Not my style. But there was one more option. The 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier Coupe with the 2.2L EcoTech and a 5 speed gearbox. Yep, a Cavalier. It's in my affordability range, and it drives well. The Cavalier is an average car from an average company. Even their name, General Motors, says everything about it. It's either a good car or a bad car. This one seems to be a good one. Well, all used cars are good cars until a week later. However, I can assure you that the Cavalier Coupe is faster than both the auto and the manual EG8 Civic. It gets good gas mileage, if you consider 33 MPG highway good. The price for performance. Yes, I convinced them to let me test drive it. I might take it, as long as it dosen't give me problems.

BTW, about eBay pwnage, I got a left rear trailing arm from an EG8 for $65 with shipping. They also left the brake drum and hub assembly on there, with the upper control arm.

Good luck with the new car search, and I hope it's fruitful. I read thist thread a while back and was really bummed for you. It's a tough break, and I wish you the best.

BTW, I agree that you should keep an eye out for a used Civic. Used hondas in good shape are unbeatable.

That really sucks.... especially the accident report. I dont know where you live but you seem to have some sort of case at least where I live you would. If you call the officer who wrote the report and explain that the report he prepared does not properly reflect the damage done to the car as there is no damage done the the right bumper area where he claims the accident occurred. In NJ, your accident qualifies for the no fault law where if someone hits you in the rear, no matter what happened, its there fault. I know you dont have a lot of money to go to court and fight it, its a shame, because if you could prove that the accident report is false, and show that the other person was really at fault, than you could probably win your case and than you could get whatever car you wanted.

Wish I could do that, but instead I spited them with the traffic school. See down here they will sap you for every cent you got just because of the right-of-way law, regardless of the fact that the accident report is bogus. You don't even have a chance in court down here. It's all big huge fine because of X regardless of Y. I know, because I got some good friends of mine that had similar accident. Sideswiped by a person passing on the right when entering the highway, and they went to court but got jackhammered with a $1000 fine without a chance to defend themselves.

In any case, when I do get the Cavalier, if I do, I will depart from here. I may stick around for some time, to relate my experiences with the Civic, but then I'll go into hiatus, until I get another Civic one day...

before you get that "affordable" chevy cavalier, lemme show you how great the build quality is on cavalier/cobalts.

my friend's 05 civic coupe got T-boned by a Chevy cobalt this past weekend. the civic came out pretty much with a dented up door and rear quarter panel.

the cobalt was probably totaled, losing the entire front bumper, radiator and support and crumple zone (if it even has one).

civic 1, cobalt 0.
