THIS IS MY FIRST HONDA AND I HAVE A QUESTION?
IM ABOUT TO GET A 1997 HONDA CIVIC EX COUPE THIS WEEKEND AND I KNOW THAT THE ENGINE THIS YEAR BRINGS IS A D16Y8 SOHC VTEC. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE WAS ANYWAY I COULD CHANGE IT FROM BEING A SOHC TO DOHC WITHOUT CHANGING THE ENGINE IT HAS IN IT? I WANT TO KEEP THE D16 BECAUSE I SEE ALOT OF CIVIC WITH B16 AND B18 BUT I WANT TO SHOW THAT THE D16 CAN PROVE A WORTHY OPPONENT..........ANYWAY I WAS WONDERING IF THAT IS POSSIBLE AND IF IT IS WHAT WOULD I HAVE TO DO TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
The D series in your civic (and consequentially in mine as well) is a SOHC. That I know of, you cannot change it over to a DOHC. You can swap it for the B-series and have a DOHC, but like you said, you want to smoke muscle cars at night with your D.
Many people on here are really good with building the D-series. Look to them for good advice...

that sucks, i guess im sticking with the sohc........oh well, its a vtech anyways so either way im gonna mod it by first adding a cold air intake from AEM and then the catback from skunk2.....
glad to be part of the forum with civic lovers such as myself. is it true that b18 dont bring vtech? i have a friend whos vtech kicks in at 4900 rpm and its real nice....if it does i will consider doing the swap!
