Default need advice on purchase of used civic

Hello all,

I am looking on buying a 1999-2005 civic for my mom. Is there anything that I should be looking for when shopping for a used car? (i.e, my 2000 accord needed a timing belt change at 100K).

Thanks for everyone's input

If you haven't bought the car yet (it's been a month,) I did the same research and found that this generation has tons of transmission problems to the point where people want to start a class-action lawsuit. The advice given to me was to go a generation down because of my budget, so I'm looking at 2000s. Maybe you should look a generation up?

Hope that helps,

Kristen

people tend to trash civics because they are so light and you can throw them around. If youre looking at one in particular it may be a pain but try and look underneath the car for scratches or dents, people tend to hit a lot of curbs which can cause problems in the future with joints and such.. and then there is always this handy list. :P
