Default New Brake Pads at 28,500 miles?????

Hi! My name is Stacie and I am new to this forum. Just last week, I took my 2006 Honda Civic into the Honda Dealership because it was making a squeeling noise. They said my brake pads were worn below 1 MM and wanted to charge me $200 to replace them. I decided to go to Just Brakes to have them replace the pads since it only cost $100. They advised me to go back to Honda and have them re check the brake system because he said there is no way that my brake pads should be worn down that far with just 28,500 and the fact that they are worn unevenly means there is a problem causing that such as a stuck caliper or something. I am not familiar with braking systems so any advice I could get would be greatly appreciated. The car is obviously still under warrantly and want to ensure I do not have a problem that I will have to get fixed down the road at my expense. Thanks!

do you do a lot of stop and go traffic driving?

do you apply your brakes hard frequently?

do you ride on the brake? (meaning use the brake to maintain speed going down large hills etc)

while 28,500 miles isn't a lot of miles on pads, it's not a horrible turn out. I believe average lifespan is somewhere around 35,000 miles, but if you do any of the above, it will shorten the lifespan.

Your driving habits and maintenance habits have more to do with brake longevity than anything else.

I've seen clutches worn out in under 25K miles (ridiculous). I've also seen clutches go over 150K miles without any issues. Things like brakes and clutches are very much subject to differences in longevity based on usage.

If your calipers are dragging, that may be a warranty issue.

~30k miles is pretty typical for pad life. A LOT depends on driving habits, lots of stop-go, hard braking, long braking periods, etc... but i wouldnt be too concerned. it wouldnt be a bad idea to have them check the rotors since the pads were that low, while they do that they can check for any abnormalities in the system.
