without sound as thick as pig crap, how do i work out what engine is in my civic.

First look at the timing belt cover. Than on the stampping on the head. You can figure it out from there

there is a little flat spot on the block next to the exhaust manifold. on it is a number/letter combo. find that and let us know what it says.

it is right next to where the engine bolts to the transaxle (transmision)
