Default Oil Pan or Oversize Plug, that is the question...

Advance Auto has oversize plug, but eBay has Oil Pan. Plug costs way less, is less problematic to install, but metal shavings... [:'(]

Which is better?

k, in the long run, it will make things easier. When rethreading anything, it's very easy to mess it up. If you successfully rethread it, it may not be straight thus not having the best seal. Plus, if you ever somehow lose the oversized plug or someone else does, you or they might forget about it and won't be able to find the right size plug to fill it. And don't forget about those metals shavings too.[:@]

A new pan will alleviate you of all of those worries. But, hey, it's your car and you may not worry about a single one of those issues. Best of luck!

Well, remember this car is like all busted up, so I am free to use any means necessary that does not cost any $$ to fix it, just so it uns long enough for me to get enough $$ to get another car...

the shavings should run out with the oil, how difficult is changing the oil pan on these, do you have to remove the engine?

I believe that all of the bolts are on the bottom of the engine for the oil pan. Use the search feature to see if there is any help in any other threads. I know Forty04 had to pull his off when he blew his turbo'd y8. some of those pictures from that thread might come in handy.

meanwhile, you can be sure that it will run if you replace the oil pan, and it's not expensive enough for you to get into debt over. especially if you do it yourself.

To remove the pan you have to remove the downpipe first, and that is a real P.I.T.A. to get off without damaging it!

others have done it successfully, though I can't say I have on a Civic. I'm sure it's similar to removing the o2 sensor. there's no way to do it but to do it carefully.
