Pistons on D16z6 good?
#3
Well motor has been rebuilt except for the pistons. Its original.Been check and they said pistons were still good in it. I wanna in future say add mods to car like throttle body and such. In other words after I mod the car with things and get on it a couple times I dont wanna blow the piston rings and all that.

the stock pistons are good for about 200hp. unless youre going turbo youll be fine. There are guys I know running 165 HP on a d16z6 with stock rods and they are fine.
If you go turbo you will have to upgrade though.

huh? Go to D-series.org. The general opinion is that they are good for around 200 - no more than 220. Check it out over there...
How much more are you saying they are good for?
If you go turbo youre saying you dont need to replace the rods until when? 250? 275? 300?
Just curious...
cause if I can keep my stock bottom end and start putting my turbo together and be pushing around 250hp on a stock bottom that would be awesome.......Somehow I dont trust stock rods with that kinda power though.
Not trying to argue. Just wondering if thats what you meant.

You said "if you go turbo you will have to upgrade". That's not true, it doesn't have to do with being turbocharged, it has to do with how much power they can handle.
The general opinion of them being only good until 200 WHP is wrong. A healthy D16Z6 can take up to 250 WHP, and sometimes even more. The key is all in the tune. As a general rule of thumb, I would say they're good for around 225 WHP, no more than 240 WHP to be safe. Always know the condition of your engine first though.
The pistons could probably go a little higher than the rods' limits. He wasn't asking about rods, he asked about pistons.
