I purchased a new 2008 EX 4dr in august.
I traded in my 2006 BMW X3 in an effort to be more environmentally friendly.
I was getting 20mpg average in mixed driving in the X3
I am doing the same type of driving in the Civic and I am only averaging 22mpg.

I appreciate not buying premium gas, but otherwise I am a little peeved.

The Civic is just fine, but for an measly 2 mpg I would much rather be driving my X3

What gives? Do I have a bum Civic? Sticker said 26-35

It is an automatic. Still says average user is 31+
The range is 21-41...but I cannot imagine that the way I drive is toward the lower end of the spectrum. I drove my X3 the same way and got at least the average that that site lists for that car
Is there anything I should have checked on the car?

What percentage of your miles are city versus highway when you get 22 mpg? Have you ever driven nearly 100% highway miles on a tank? If so, what was the mileage?

 

I am probably 70/30 hwy/city
I did drive 100% highway about 1100mi roundtrip, but forgot to calculate it out.
I guess I am just baffled that I have been getting just slightly better mileage than my last car that weighed twice as much and had twice the engine power!

 

Well, your mileage does seem low. Pull out the spark plugs and inspect them. Also measure the gap. If they look bad, just replace them with OEM plugs. Is your CEL ON?

 

you should still have a warranty, correct? call up the dealership and tell them what's up, and then have them check out the car.

 

a lot has to do with the speed your driving , an example is say if u drive the max speed on a civic and then go that speed in a BMW , the BMW will give u better avg lol , in civics 110 km/h is the speed that gets you the best millage , when u start going pass 125 your basically doing worse than city , try that out and see how your results are.

 

Thanks for the advice, I am going to have the dealer look at it monday. I talked to hem and they agree that it is low considering how and where I drive it
