most people remove the ac to lose weight in their vehicle. or have enough room for a turbo.

If it wasn't turbo'd, or if the person had an A/c friendly turbo set-up, the previous person also may have removed it to free up any parasitic drag on the crank pulley (since the a/c belt obviously is spun by it).

Yea, they sometimes remove it for some engine types, to save weight, free up horsepower. The car i bought was stripped of P/S, A/C, and Cruise...which completely sucks...

It weighs a decent amount, but its mostly to free up the crankshaft...A/C compressor causes alot of drag on it...

Really there isn't any horsepower drag, just inertia, with the system off. To prevent that, you could just take the belt off before you go racing. The whole system weighs maybe 40-50 pounds. Seems to me to be worth keeping.
