Default The Red Key!!!

I got a 1996 hatch (EG?) And i went to the dealership to try get a new key because i only have one black one, and they said it would cost £240 (Almost $500) because i needed a new red key and two hours labour to programme it, is this true and if so any other way to do it?

92-95 = EG
96-00 = EK

And no you shouldnt have to program anything...its not an 07 its a 96, you stick the right key in the hole and it unlocks.

Go to walmart or something and get one copied...and just for future info use common sense/google to solve simple questions like these.

sounds about right...if you want a nice honda key then spend like 20 at the dealership or spend like nothin at walmart for a normal 1

'round here you can go to a swap meet (like a flea market i guess) and get any key made with any manufacturer's emblem you want for like 3 bucks.

Yeah, that's crap. Only the newer civics use the special computer chip keys, a '96 you can copy at any key copy place.
