Default rim size

sorry if this is in the wrong section but i have an 00 civic ex with steelies tire size 185/65-14 and i found rims for sale i like, tire size 205/40-17. my car is at stock height, if i switch to this rim and tire size, is it gonna make my car look like its on tip toes are affect the tire/fender clearance in a negative way?

personally i think 17's are too big, you can fit them though. i recommend looking for something thats 15's or 16's

Yeah, changing from 14s to 17s will change your ride hight. Personally I wouldn't go any bigger then 16s on a Civic though. Look into Rota slipstreams, they look clean on that generation Civic.

If your tire size ends up measuring taller than what you had with the 14's you will have changed for final drive ratio hurting the cars acceleration. Unless you regear of course.

The speedo will be 3% off (reads 58 when you're actually going 60).

Regearing a civic is kind of hard given that there's factory transmissions available and that's about it. If you want different ratios, you'd better have a few d-series transmissions sitting around with the shafts pulled out ready to mix and match.

It won't really change the ride height (the smaller sidewall makes up for the larger wheel), but it'll look weird at stock height:

Personally, I don't think they look terrible when you're slammed, but at stock height they don't look right.

It can be done, but you will need some really low profile tires. This will make a really bumpy ride, but it can be done. And like reaper said, it looks kinda awkward at stock height.
