Default Si vs. normal

Hello all I new to this forum and have many inquiries and hope to learnlots from this website. In July I will be getting a car and have had my eye on the 99/00 civics Si. My question is whats faster in a quarter mile an Si or a normal civic of the same year. Im sure its the Si, but then why do so many people have normal civics instead of Si's. Are normal civics faster than an Si when hooked up? If anyone can please explain to me the difference between the two and whats better for a 1/4 mile race. Thanks.

Si is faster stock. Si in good condition for a decent price is hard to come by. That's why not everybody has one.

If you can get the SI, go for it. The SI has a much better motor since its a dohc vtec. Its got lots of potential and its still fast stock. If you cant find one for a decent price, get the next level down, an EX. The EX has a sohc vtec motor that is screaming for a turbo. Throw a turbo on it and you will blow away the stock SI's. The other trim levels like LX and DX have non vtec motors and if you want to make them fast you have to swap them with a better motor so unless your looking for a gas-saver-only civic then you dont want anything besides an EX or SI.

"normal" civics are more affordable, but in the end they end up getting the same engine as an si for a nice power increase.

"normal civics" are slightly lighter, and not everyone can afford si's, so they settle for less, i wish i had the opportunity to get one instead of my pos car

ok so swapping an engine on an Si to another one would be pointless?

Yeah if you get the si, modding that engine will give you lots of power.

if I were you I'd get an EX and swap in a gsr or type-r motor. type-r's (b18c5) are a lot, but gsr's (b18c1) are affordable. I'd take a gsr motor over the b16. both are integra motors by the way.

If thats the case just get a gsr teg. the money you spend to do the wholeengine sawp to the civic you could have the teg wit some bolt ons.
