i get in my car flip the switch to on, all the lights in the dash come on right? normal in a car, but the CEL comes on. then shuts off after 3-4 seconds. and when it shuts off it makes this tick sound. and then i start the engine. for some reason i've been starting my car that way without noticing for the past....hell 5 months? what is that?

 

Does the tick sound seem to come from the gauge assembly, the ECU, or some other location?

i am not sure that the noise you are explaining is the noise im thinking of..... but it is normal for the light to be on for a few seconds while the fuel pump primes... which could be the click...
